Background and Rationale

    Research is a vital pillar of public health progress both globally and locally. Strong research systems drive healthcare innovation, inform policy, and improve service delivery. However, many challenges persist—such as fragmented research ecosystems, limited interdisciplinary collaboration, and inequitable funding—especially in low- and middle-income countries.     Alliance for Research Collaboration Vision

    “A collaborative research ecosystem advancing health equity, resilient communities, and evidence-driven solutions for lasting impact.”

     

    Underlining the need to promote synergies between response, efforts for HIV, TB, STI, Maternal Child Health and Nutrition, Food Security, as well as responding to social determinants of Health and interplays between Gender Based Violence and Femicide, Mental Health, and Substance Use Disorder issues, the Members set forth the following ARC Charter for the SIOC-CDT funded programmes in collaboration with South Africa Government.  The Alliance provides a framework for voluntary action to increase cooperation and investment in research activities to build evidence and help strengthen health and community systems in order to improve patient outcomes, improve service delivery efficiencies, productivity, resilience and adaptive capacity, thereby contributing in UNAIDS Sustainable Development Goals achievement, while helping meet individual programmatic goals and objectives.  

     

    Our Objectives

    Improve knowledge sharing, access to, and application of health and social wellness practices and technologies by the South African Government (SAG) and partners, to enhance service provision and impact.

    Advance the development of evidence-based and context-sensitive programme implementation approaches, aimed at improving research coherence and the effective monitoring of research efforts, while taking into account the unique environmental, social, and economic contexts of Members and their programmes. 

    Strengthen local and regional research expertise by helping researchers and programme implementers gain skills in emerging research methodologies and technologies, through the creation of new partnerships and exchange opportunities.

    Foster strategic partnerships among government entities, private sector actors, national, international and regional research institutions, foundations, and non-governmental organizations to coordinate research efforts, promote best practices, and scale up the use of innovative technologies.

    Uphold ethical, inclusive, and gender-responsive research practices, including the establishment and adherence to clear guidelines for responsible data use and inclusive knowledge generation.
